A Charge of Murder.

f (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, November 23. The trial of Andiew Campbell, on a charge of murdering Kobert Hislop, at Eotorua, commenced to-day. Evidence for the prosecution stated that Hislop was shot by Campbell with a pea rifle on the night of October.26th. For the defence it was stated that Hislop was at one time boarded at Campbell's house, but. was asked to leave owing to hi3 conduct to Mrs Campbell. Since then he had annoyed and insulted j Mr and Mrs Campbell, sending the latter j disgusting letters. He called at the ! house on the night of the tragedy and, according to the evidence of accused, made the most insulting remarks about . Mrs Campbell. Accused then got his pea litio and ordered the deceased to leave. The latter refused and accused then shot him and gave himself up to j tho police. i Witnesses gave the accused a gocd character. j The case was adjourned.
