CHRISTCHURCH, This Day

At the Magistrate's Court to-"diiy J>liu Byrne was charged with assaulting Janet Johnston and causing grievous bodily harm to her. The case arose out of the pitiable circumstances surrounding the death of the woman Johnston early in November, it bfiing alleged that accused struck her and broke her jaw, and then left her lying _ eight days suffering from the injury. She was unattended and ultimately died of consumption. After hearing the evidence accused was committed for trial at the next sittings of the Supremo Court.
