(Received November 23, at 9.46 a.m.) MELBOURNE. This day. The Federal Government has received a communication from the King which directs that the remainder of the sentence of James Kiely, a soldier of the 53rd Foot, be remitted. Kiely was sentenced at a .Court Martial in 1566 to death for treason. The sentence was commuted to imprisonment for life and he was exiled to West Australia where he is still under detention though liberated on license of 1878. Several fellow exiles escaped to America and others were pardoned.
