The following is from tho November issue of tho Labour Journal in reference to Palmerston North :— ' •■

Building trades: Bricklayers continue very busy, all men making full time. Plasterers are fully employed;' no idle men. Carpenters' work is very brisk; no unemployed. No demand for stonemasons. Painters' employers are fullhanded, and there is no opening for ordinary journeymen. Engineering: There is a continued improvement in this branch, and the outlook is good.

Boot trade: A fairly- brisk business doing in factories; hands making full time.

Agricultural implement maKing : A good business doing, preparing for summer ; tradesmen making full time. Saddlery ; A fair business being dono and prospects good. Tailoring : In factories there is a considerable improvement on last month, ■which was quiet; employees are now working full time. Order shops working full time, owing to.approach of Agricultural and Pastoral Show on the Ist November.

Timber and joinery trade: A very brisk business doing in all departments of joinery.

Eetail trades : Drapers report a much better business than was the case last month. In groceries a steady trade is reported. Bootmakers report an improvement on the previous three months of winter.

Coachbuilding continues very slack; the importation of American vehicles interferes greatly with the local industry. Plumbing : Exceptionally brisk; hands making full time.

Millinery : The above applies to this branch also.

Flax-milling: The mills are gradually getting to work, but continual wet interferes with those situate in low-lying lands.

Brickmaking : Very busy; cannot fill orders.

Printers and,. bookbindera are all working full time.

Unplrilled labour: During the moDth only two registered for employment. Work was found for them immediately.
