Miss Jessie Maclachlan.
That talented Scottish singer, Hiss Jessie Maclacblan, will give a concert in Palmerston on Monday night. Her fame is world wide, and as an instance we quote what tha New York Evening News says with reference to one of her concerts in that city:—-" Her interpretations of'Coinin' through the Rye,' and' Whistle an' I'll come tae ye, my lad,' are so charmingly arch and piquant that it would seem as though she could, not do anything hotter, but when sh& sings the "Bonnie Blue Bonnets," " Angus McDonald," and similarly dramatic composition?, sho becomes a Scottish Brunnhilde, whose heroic declamation stirs the pulse in a strange way and thrills tha heart.; '„ ■ One "■ feels that the sons of Scotland could be moved to daring deeds in martial undertakings by such singing a? this. As an entertainment her performance is.a welcome variation on the stereotyped vocal efforts- 1 heard nowadays in the concert room, as well as a valuable educational factor in^ increasing one's knowledge of nation^l^ song which has been too much neglected."^! Of two other members of her com-T,,; pany the. following press comments ■*-. were made : - "Mr John McLinedn gave ; a very fioe rendering of the Piatti Concerto in D minor. Everything sounded beautifully clea>-, and he showed himself to have complete mastery over the great Julius Klengel school, both in tho bow and left hand technique."—Neve Zeitschrift Der Mu3ik, Leipzig. " Mr Buchanan, the invaluable pianist of the organisation, besides accompanying during the evening with remarkably good taste,'played two pianoforte solos.'* —Daily Telegraph, Sydney.
