Anniversary Services.
'The colebrationß in connection with the Broad Street Methodist Sunday School were concluded last evening with a most successful tea and public gathering. There was an exceptionally large attendance at the tea, the schoolroom being crowded so that it was necessary to have three relays at the tables. The schoolroom was nicely decorated for the occasion and the tables • were presided •over by the lady teachers and senior scholars of the school. -..-.'■ The public meeting was. held in the church and was presided over by Mr .' -G. H. Bennett as the superintendent of the Sunday, School. All parts of the 'building were filled. The report presented ■by the secretary, Mr Rouse, was read by the chairman. It. showed that the roll number was 214, Ihe average attendance ' being 159. There were also 19 teachers and officers, .15 being the average attendance. The report referred to the «scellent services rendered to tho achi ol by five teachers who had left during the year, feeling reference also being made to the death of Mr R. Lyon who for 7years had been on the teaching staff. AH the classes were reported on as being . in a satisfactory condition, particu larly the senior ones. The annual balance-sheet was also presented and showed a satisfactory surplus on the year's working. During the evening a number of the hymns that were so .(popular■ on Sunday wore repeated.and went in a most inspiriting fashion.' Special prizes were also presented to Wilfred Pye for . attendance and Gladstone Harwood for gaining the highest marks in the Sunday School Union examination. Hearty votes of thanks were accorded to Mr- Chisholm, Miss Mowleni, and the members of the choir and orchestra for their valuable assistance, and also to the teaching staff for the efficient manner in which their duties had been carried out during the year.
