West's Pictures and the Brescians.

A Crowded Audience.

The Opera House held a very large audience last night, when that popular combination West's Pictures and the Breseians inaugurated their return season. They presented an excellent and diversified programme, -which continually excited the approbation of the audience. The management have secured some new moving pictures of surprising interest. Indeed it is safe to saj r that no better have ever been seen displayed in Pahuerston. The manner of exhibiting the views is.also excellent, showing the great improvements made in the mechanical arrangements. Such pictures as those of " a railway ride through the valley of the Engadine, Switzerland," " Lord and Lady Curzon leavinglndia for Home" (showing a procession of some score of gigantic elephants with all their gorgeous trappings and equipments)., and the1 "New York railway ferry" (giving an idea of how our American friends convey whole trains across the water in barges) are of distinct educational value, apart from the entertainment point of view, -No less instructive was the series showinsr the whole operation of whale catching. A beautifully tinted study representing " Twilight on the Nile," evoked many exclamations of admiration. The humorous films were simply irresistible provoking the most imperturbable to laughter. The efforts of an individual, who had imbibed too freely,, to reach the moon, was the subject of a really remarkable scries. These pictures alone are worth going far to see, but in addition, a long musical and vocal programme is given by the Breseians. Miss Adelina Martinengo is a violinist of considerably more than average ability, as was evidenced by her playing of an " Andante " (Mendelssohn), for which she was accorded warm applause. The company possess in Mr Fred Mills a humorist who soon makes himself a favourite. Last night he was recalled three times. As giving an idea of the class of music indulged in by the Breseians, it may be mentioned that the full programme last night was as follows:— Gavotte, " The Bells," (bell obligate) Mr T. N. Lax; anthem, " Now the day is over," Company; song, "Love is meant to make us glad," Miss Sarah Hendy ; song, " An Old Garden," Miss Domemoa Martinengo; duet, " The World went very well then," Miss A. Martinengo and Mr Fred Mills ; violin solo, " Andante," Miss Adelina Martinengo ; scena, " The .Jewel Soug," Miss Antonia Martinengo; hunting song, "My mare and I," Mr Eudall Hayward. To-night another entertainment will be given at the Opera House.
