CHRISTCHURCH, October 30. I\fr Bishop, S.M., gave a reserved judgment to-day in the case of Hughes v. Johnson, wherein plaintiff, a married woman, claimed £200 damages for injuries received in consequence of a defective bridge which crossed a small stream in defendant's public pleasure gardens at Opawa. Judgment was given for ulaintiff for £100.
At Ithe Kaiapoi Magistrate's Court to-day, J. G. Syvret, a prohibited person, admitted a charge of having received a flask of whisky procured for him by a friend, and was fined £5. Accused had previously been convicted three times this year for similar offences.
HAMILTON, This day. The Government] has purchased the Waitomo Caves and adjoiuing property, including the accommodation house. It is intended to place%a caretaker at the caves and light them with electricity.
