Lannessan created a sensation by declaring the fortresses on the eastern frontier of France were unable to resist the 150 powerful guns that Germany possesses, and howitzers throwing a projectile weighing 40 kilogrammes, and mortars 145 kilogrammes filled with powerful explosives. He declares that France possesses no similar artillery.
