'XX
4.1 i l6rf ere no signs of violence about the body or the immediate surroundings- , from which any suspicion »f foul play s might be drawn, but the body was veryemaciated, which suggested to Inspector ■J-lhson that the cause of death'may , have been starvation. The spot where the body was found is rather steep, and. iis covered.with, a short growth of grass ; and bracken. Six or seren yards above : is a ledge, on which was found a leather travelling-bag containing various r articles of clothing, and scattered about ! were a razor, shirts, and other articles i of apparel, partially covered with wind- ! blown dust and gravel. Deceased was wearing tailor-made riding pants, and neat buttoned leggings, a soft shirt, and a coat. A scarlet-lined cavalry coat was lying near the body. In a pocket of his coat several letters were discovered addressed variously to "P. L Tudor " "E. L. Tudor," and"T. E. Tudor." In the butt of an old Bank of Australasia cheque-book was the record of a cheque drawn in favour of Mr Gibbons, of the White Hart Hotel at Marton, and another in favor of Mr Northoy^r, also a Marton publican. The tag of defceased's coat bears the name of J. tailor, Marton, and another garment was evidently purchased from Sir McEldowney, formerly a draper of Marton. Deceased, about whom so far nothing is known, was apparently about thirty years of age. HZe was slim-built, and about sft lOin in height. He wore a dark moustache, and when found had a aark stubbly beard, evidently through neglecting to shave for a few days. His dark hair'was rather long. He was so light that, one man lifted him without any effort, proving pretty conclusively that he had, purposely or otherwise, been on short commons for some time past.*-N.Z. Times.
