The Volunteer Social held in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening was a great success. Captain Andrew occupied the chair, and presented the different trophies as followH: — The " Lorimer Cup," to Vol. Capp who, having won it.twice hi succcxiion, retains it as Ins own property; Mr Capp'« Pi iy',sri^r ,teal )Ot' to J>ancc^orpl. i. Clothing Factory'K Cup, Capt. Andrew and the late Scrgt. T. Wil«on were to fire off for it. It wax decided to have the namea ol hoth engraved,on the Cup, and the gold medal, presented by Mr Wilnon, which goes to winner, pauses ou for nexfcycar'x competition. During the evening the following toasts were honoured :—"Tha King," by Capt. Andrew; "Cup Winner," by Capt. Andrew, a/id responded to by Vol. Cap,,, " Donors of lrophics, by Lieut. Bowatcr, responded to Vy Messrs T. Grarnmer and CJapp, senr.; " TheAshhursfc Corps," by Mr J- H. Vincent, and responded to by Captain Andrew; " Visitorii," by bergt. Thomas, and responded to by Messrs E. C. Sanders and! T. Grammer ; bhooters," by Lieut. Trass. Songs were given by Messrs Burns, Trass,' banders, Smith, Clapham, Sheridan, Bowater, Duley, Druminond, and Mr Aitken gave a recitation. Things generally in connection with the hospital concert on the 22nd are booming. The Ashhurst Band will play selections outside the Hall, and the following in addition to names previously mentioned will take part in the programme-.—Mrs Newton, Miss Wilkinson, Misses Maunder, Messrs ™nton> A# rass and W- -A-i&en. Mr Chas Ticehursthas received word of the .death of his father, a well-known Wairarapa resident. Red Cross, a locally trained gee gee, was successful in winning two races at Marton. The owner, Mr Roberts, deserves it.
