Interviewed at Christchurch, Mr H. R Toogood, who is a candidate for a city seat in the New Liberal interest, said: " I have a serious objection to party government, but at the same time I must use a party to kill a party. It was useless for men to go into • the House at present as floating nomads ; they lacked power. I am going with these people (the New Liberals) for the destruction of the abases which party politics have led to. I ani advocatiug the leasehold of Crown lands, and I am an ardent supporter of the referendum, with the initiative."

Mr Toogood served his apprenticeship as a mechanical engineer with Mr D. Robertson, Wellington, and was in the railway workshops at Petono for two .years.. He has been at Canterbury College for four years, and will be preparing for an examination :in professional subjects while .conducting his election campaign. ,
