At : Waipaw.a' a sack of flour fell on a boy named Mclntyre, age 3 years. His left arm was broken in three places and his right.leg was also broken. llie little sufferer was removed to the Hospital. . TJieManaia Witness gives particulars ofia serious accident which happened to a boy named John Lichtwark, aged 8 years, at Opunake a few c~'&tys ago> .It appears that his mother had sent him to Mrs Ebbutfc!s house-to take charge of the latter's baby while she visited" Mrs Lichtwark, a distance of about a quarter of a mile. Between three and four o'clock Mr Macßeynolds (Eltham Eoad) heard cries coming from the ' house adjoining • his, and and went to see what was the matter, when he was met by the little chap holding up his hand, which was shattered and bleeding, apparently the I result of an explosion, but how it , happened the boy did not say. Mr Macßeynolds tied up the wound and brought the sufferer to Dr Morrison jwho attended to it. The thumb of : the right hand, and the first and second fingers were blown off, and the I top of the third finger, while-the hand was split across between the first and , second fingers. The baby had a very narrow escape, as parts of two fingers and pieces of flesh.were found in its cot, and it had three or four marks on its legs like burns. It is surmised that the boy had been playing with, a dynamite cap, arid thus met with the i accident by which he lias practically I lost Ms right hand. Mr Lichtwark is at present in Canterbury. (Per Press Association).
