" Advance," the well-known sporting scribe of the Wellington Times, in reviewing the commendable action of the Ashhurst Racing Club regarding contributions to Hospital Boards, says it is a matter of surprise to him that some of the more influential clubs have not moved in the matter before, and he hopes that as the season in the north has not yet begun, the officials of racing clubs will remember that charity covers a multitude of sins, and universally adopt the decision, arrived at by the Ashhurst Club.
The Dannevirke Racing Club has appointed a committee to enquire into the- possibility of acquiring a freehold racecourse. The club's present course is a Maori leasehold property, and this is a barrier to the establishment of first-class appointments- At the annual meeting of the Club this week the following members were elected: President: Mr Geo. Hunter; Vice-Presidents: Messrs Gordon Lloyd and 11. N. - Blakistan j Treasurer : Mr 0. Baddeley'; Stewards; Messrs W. G. Hunter," J. Neaglo, J, Devonshire, W. Murray, C. Grosse, W. J. Wylie, 31. Roake, W. J. luglcy, Hoera, Karahinna, and Manahi Paowai. Mr , Mat. Henderson, a "thorough sport" I and one of the Club's best supporters in I past years, was elected, a li£o member^
