Still Some Hope
(Received August 26, at 8.34 a.m.) . LONDON, August 25. According to the Times' correspondent, sceptics contend that President Roosevelt would not attempt to compromise the quarrel if he were convinced that Russia and Japan had- said the last word.
The Times' correspondent also says that M. de Witte's and Professor Maartens' published criticisms of Count Lamsdorff for lack of pliancy on the question of compromise and for unwillingness to resort to arbitration must compel the serious attention of the Russian authontieTat Peterhof.
