Bible in Schools
(T» the Edito»)
Sir, —In last night's issue of your journal the Eev. Mr Jolly, bracketing together Roman Catholics and infidels, concludes a letter with this offensive tag|—"The question for Protestant Christians to answer is how long are they going to permit people of that type to deprive their children of Bible lessons in the Schools ?'" Now let me ask a few question:—Are not the people of that type as good as Mr Jolly, despite his assumed superiority? Are they to be publicly insulted by him because in their views they dare to disagree with his own ? How long are people of that type going to permit themselves to be thus insulted with impunity by men of his type ? Is studied offensivoness any part of Christian ethics ? Is he to be taken as a gentlemanly type of what Bible lessons in schools have effected ? If so agnostic teaching can produce ' better samples.—l am, etc.,
J. BOWDEN, Palmerston North, August 25th.
