Accidents and Fatalities

HAMILTON, August 24. A man named Devonport, who was jackmg logs alone in the bush near Taumarunui, was killed by a log falling on him. The accident must have hap° pened yesterday afternoon. The body was found this morning pinned to the ground by a log. The man was unmarried. He has two brothers in'the district.
NELSON, August 24. A young man named Henry Hip Polet, a Maori, was travelling through the bush last night at Croixelles, when ne fell over a cliff and lay there all night. He was found this morning and was brought to Nelson. He received nasty gashes about his face and head, but is not seriously injnred.
