Australia v. Wellington.

(Per'Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 19. The team, representing Wellington against Australia' to-day was not greatly different from that which beat New Zealand and they prove.i their success on that occasion was not a fluke, bv administering a decisive drubbing to the visitors:. The ground was rather wet though' not so bad as on the occasion mentioned, but no rain fell during the day.. There was a steady breeze blowing w-hich helped the Australians to make a< good showing while they had- ib in their favour, and was still more useful to Wellington in the last spell..

About 5000 were present,

In the first spell Winiata scored a try which, was converted, and Australia followed with a goal from a mark. Next Wrigley scored, but Wickham placed a splendid;goal from exactly half-way, and made the score : 8 to 7.

Neither side could claim any particular advantage until they crossed over, and then Wrigley scored twice in quick succession,, bumping through the whole Australian team by main force in the first try.

The visitors then pulled themselves together, only to see O'Leary drop a very fine goal from 40 yards', distance, and tha same player, feinting with judgment, dodged through and got a try. A goal wai kicked, making the score, Wellington 23, Australia 7, at which it remained.

As to the match with New Zealand, the Wellington forwards showed up splendidly, smothered the Australian backs, and made openings for their own men. Behind the scrum some of the visitors displayed a good turn cf foot, and on a dry ground they would no doubt put up a better game. "Wickham's place-kicking was very fine, and both he and Penman did some good work..

Wrigley played a great game, and it becomes more apparent with each match in- which he appears that he would hare been an acquisition to the team that has gone home.
