CHRISTCHUECH, August 17 The weather for the second day of the trrand National meeting was cold and cheerless, and" a thick fog which hum? about the course made it difficult at times to distinguish the horses running along the back. The attendance, however was good, the Governor and party being again present. As on the first day there were several falls, but the riders escaped without injury, though m the National Hurdles Borneo and Irumpery received injuries which necessitated their being shot. The totalisator £ H,603 for the second day of last year.
New Zealand Grand- National Hurdles—Creusot 1, Waiwera 2 Tupara 3. Also started: The Mohican, Irumpery Cavalry, Heroism, Durable Catherine Gordon, New-town, Levant -Kungarawa Magnificent, Daredevil Outer Valima, Borneo. Kungarawa made the running early, with Borneo in close attendance. At the hurdle past the mile post Borneo fell and broke his leg and had to be destroyed Trumpery falling over him, received injuries which necessitated her dc struction also. Waiwera led round the top turn and into the straight, but over the last hurdle he was challenged Inlf T ' M'T by,a hn Sth a halt lupara two lengths away bein* third, Daredevil fourth, and fe£ 3j68 17s and £4 9s 6d .^fV gteeples-HayaQ 1, Manazona.2 TeKohau 3.
