The Coming Spring Show.
New Points in the Schedule.
•The prize list for the twentieth annual show of the Manawatu and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association is now available for- intending crJiibitors. A glance through the booklet shows that the allotment of prize money k as follows:—For competitions, £17S; horses, £375 ; cattle, £355 ; sheep, £355; pigs, £88; Manawatu Kennel Club division, £106; for poultry and pigeons, £112; horticultural, home industries, art and school divisions, £94. The total awards offered, including championship medals, amount to £1810. There arc a large number of important alterations in the schedule, especially in the direction of spreading the interest of the show well over three days. In the horse division, there are a number of classes to be judged on the first day. These aro tho pair horse and tandem classes, and the rest of the judging will be done on the second day, commencing at 8.30 in tlie morning. The additions to the horse divisions will be found under the head of carriage, polo ponies, and several classes for tradesmen's, carriers' and milkmen's turn-outs. A most-points prize of £25 is to be allotted iv the draught horse class. Fourteen different competitions will lake place in the show ring for ladies' riding, ladies' trap and horse, hunters' competitions for ladies only, and best lady driver. . Numerous 'riding and driving events for the men will also be got off, including the usual hunters' competitions. In the cattle division, besides additions to the purebred classes, the dairy cows have been allotted several-new classes, and the pens of dairy heifers have been reduced to two each. The sheep are also amply provided for, and a number of new classes inserted for shorn sheep in the Leicester and Shropshire divisions. _ For pigs a uniform scale of prizes at £2, £1, and 10s has been fixed throughout all the classes. The poultry classes have been curtailed to utility birds'only, and there is a very good schedule for the competitions. Tho departments in the exhibition hall are, on the whole, the same as last , year, with the exception of the horticultural division. In this section some 44 classes have been provided, comprising classes for professional nurserymen, amateur classes in pot plants and flowers, garden vegetables, and other special divisions for children under fourteen. The numerous classes provided arc such as will just catch the spring flowers. The Manawatu Kennel] Club's shoAi is provided with a prize list of 101 classes, and is without a doubt one of the most valuable straight-out cash prize lists ever offered in the colony. The challenge classes allotted are the bulldogs, English aud Gordon setters, and deerhounds. By-the-way, seeing that greyhounds are so popular, the six classes provided for them by the club should receive excellent entries. Prizes are £1, 7s Gd and 5s throughout this section.
