Samuel. Goodin,.farmer of Biocarton, committed suicide eairiy this morning by hanging.
DUSEDIN, March 15. A somewhat sensational development hto taken place irToonnection wiih the disappearance of about; £50 worth of goods from the warehoue of the D.I 0., between the 7ch and- 9uh inst. D6teotives have been making investigations, and to-day visited the houses of Constables McDonald an^ Moses, both married men, where a l*rgn qunmity of goods wore Luad, believed to be identi cal with those stolen from the DLC. The constables were ac once suspended and detained iubarraoks. Investigations sre still proceeding and there may be further develo^meulSi The key oi the warehouse was locktd in a box sjach niiibt and taken to the polioe station where che box was locked in another box which is a fixture in the wutehhouse.
At Balclutha to-day J. S. Knipe and Annie Knipe were charged with illegally keeping liquor for sale in a prohibition district. Knipe was found £15 and crists £&. His wife was convicted and discharged. John MtCorley, of the Railway Hotel was similarly charged. Only a stnfill quantity of liquor was found. .VlcCo'iniek was away when the raid was made. The magistrate said he couid not convict on susDicion and the case would be di'missf-d.

After discassion, the /ollowitig resolution was carried, "That the trustees regret that the resolution passed at the last meeting failed to as'ign auy reason for terminating Dr Butement's service?, and that a copy of the resolution be sent to Dr Butemeni with the full reasons for his dismissal "
Mr Hogg proposed the following as an amendment, but whioh waß eventually carried as a separate molion: '•That tho petitioners bo informed that thß sole reason for terminating the services of the present medical officer was that the other medical men in the town had declined to co-operaco with him acd form an honorary staff, and not be cause there was any wans of confidence in the skill and ability of Dr Butement."
