(From Our Own Correspondent)

The annual meeting of the Voluntfier Corps will be held on Wednesday evening after parade.

Mr W. J. Lowes has disposed of his seventeen hundred acre sheep farm at Awahou to Mr Bee.

The football club held a meeting on Saturday when the following committee was elected, viz.—Messrs Bowater (Secretary), J. Thomas, E. Thomas (captain), H. Read, L. Freeman, G. Rimmer, and Jolly, (vice captain). It is understood the club will'join the Union.

The local cricket team played a match at Woodville on Saturday which resulted in a win for the Woodville team by an innings and 50 runs. The local men will not do full justice to themselves until they have a far better pitch to practice on.

Mr and Mrs Thos. Lowes, Mrs Lusby, and Mr and Mrs W. J. Lowes left on Monday for Eotorua, and the round trip. ,Residents will be pleased to hear that the Telegraph Department is connecting Utuwai and Umutoi with Pohangina on the telephone. Tnis meanß that ono can speak direct from Ashhurst to either of these places instead of via the Feilding Exchange as would have been the case had the connection been made from Kimbolton.
