GENERAL NEWS.
Mr John Foster Fraser, writing on Hfe in Canada, quotes a farmer as saying :— " You can't keep a girl in this country, because they all get married. Did you see yesterday's papers ? Why, down at Winnipeg it is impossible to get carriages for funeralS, because they are all wanted for weddings ! "
As showing the high falutin talk and the fallacy of many of the opinions and forecasts given by .well-known authorities, both naval and military, in Great Britain and on the Continent, we make the following extract from a recent article, " Will the Baltic fleet reach Port Arthur in time to relieve General Stoessel and Admiral Wiren?" by Mr F. T. Jane, a well-known authority on' naval matters. After showing the possibility of cruisers doing the journey apd back to the Far East under war conditions, he says: " The man upon whom rests the shaping of the world's future destiny is Admiral Wiren. The ;key of everything is what he may accomplish during the ninety days that the Baltic fleet will be in transit." Well, Admiral Wiren, or at any rate his fleets is settled. Who next, Mr Jane ?|
