Serious Accident.

We regret to hear that a serious accident occurred yesterday to Mr Ered. Dixon, son .of Mr.. J. Dixon, of Bunnythorpe, and ■ brother to Mr W." Dixon, of Palmerstori. Mr Dixon was working in the TJtiku district, and while carting cream to the dairy factory a pheasant flew up near the road, and startled "the horse. Theanimal backed into a hole in the road, and finally rushed into a barb wire fence. Mr Dixon was janibed between the horse and fence. His predicament was seea by a lady who was in the vicinity. Shesummoned aid, but it was found that an axe would have to be procured to cut down the fence. While the axe was being obtained further injuries were sustained by the unfortunate young man, by the horse lashing out. 'When he was finally released it was found that though no bones were broken, his. body was considerably lacerated and bruised, and one ear had been almost torn off by the barbs on the wire. Ho was brought to the Palmerstori' hospital to-day. Before medical assistance could be obtained he had lost a considerable amount of blood. With skilful nursing it is hoped Mr Dixon will pull through.
