WELLINGTON, October 26. The large Nurses' Home built in the district hospital grounds was opened today by the Governor. The Home has accommodation for 72 nurses. The building cost £13,373, and the furniture £1200.
A deputation from the Victoria College Council waited on the Premier today to again urge that the Council be relieved of the payment of £600 for the Queen's Scholarships out of the annual revenue. Mr Seddon indicated that a way might be found out of the financial difficulties m which the Council found itself, as £6000 would be placed on the Supplementary Estimates for. the four University Colleges. The Victoria College Council could then adjust itself to proposals that would be approved by the Cabinet. The sum of £10,000 would be appropriated this year for the Victoria College buildings. CHRISTCHUKCH, October 26. A heavy downpour of rain, which began yesterday, is still falling in a steady drizzle. The low-lying lands in the surrounding country are flooded and serious loss "'to sheep and lambs is anticipated. Williams and removed to the police station an 18-gallon keg of beer. An information for a breach of the Alcoholic Sale Control Act has been laid against Williams, and the case will be heard in about a fortnight.l AUCKLAND, October 26.

At the Hospital Commission to-day, further professional evidence was given by Dr Gordon and Dr Inglas. A number of ex-patients made complaints regarding food (similar to the previous complaints), and it was intimated that the contractors for the supplies would be called later on to explain. The in. quiry is likely to occupy the whole of this week and next.'
DUNEDIN, Ocfcober 26 The directors' report of the JNational Insurance Co. for the year ended 30th September, shows that the Reserve Fund has been increased by the addition of £20,000. The directors recommend the payment of the usual dividend of nine-pence per share, and to carry forward £19,160.
