New Zealand Farmers' Union.

A meeting of the Colonial Executiveof the Union was held at Palmerston North to-day. The president, Mr J. G. "Wilson in the chair. Also present: Messrs A. H. Atkinson, Feilding; E. P. Blake, Waverley; "W. J. Birch, Marton ; E. C. Bruce, Hunterville; S. J. Carman, Waituna "West; "W. Matheson, Eketahuna; H. J. Richards, Te Horo; E. Smith, Pahiatua; Captain Hewitt, Palmerston North; and A. E. Eussell, treasurerApologies received from Messrs Peat, Perry and McCurdy. The President reported that the question of mutual insurance was likely to be soon settled, as tavourablenegotiationswerepending. Before taking the'order paper business, reference was maae to the severe loss by- fir& that Mr J. C. Cooper had sustained' andsincere sympathy was cxpressod by the Executive members.

A long discussion took place on matters pertaining to the freehold question, and eventually a sub-committee was set up to go into matters in connection with, this question.

The President reported that a " tent" had been donated to the Union and was in use at the Carterton show. Literature and all iniorrnation in connection with* the Union will be obtainable at the Farmers' Union tent, and it is probable the tent will be at the Palnierston show.
