Hawke's Bay Show.

HASTINGS.; This day,

The forty-second'annual show under the auspices of theYHawke's Bay A arid P. Society was opened to-day under, unfayorable conditions so far as the weather was concerned.-- ; Eaih jltarted to fall this morning and it is likely to, continue during the day. Had the weather re-, niained fine,; this show ' would have eclipsed all its predecessors.! V The entries' .this- year. totalled 2365 compared with 2277 last year and .1796 for 1902. In the majority of the classes the figures show an increase on previous years, but there is a slight falling 'off in the number of cattle, pigs and dogs, the increases being: inYsheep, horses" dairy produce, poultry, sundries,, .impleriients and vehicles. The .show is a very creditable one, the live stock upholding the high reputation gained by breeders who patronise this fixture. ' '•'

The Manawatu is well represented both by exhibitors and visitors. Amongst the Manawatu contingent are Messrs H. Gillies, B. S.Abraham, H. M. Simmonds, J. T. Lang, J. Slack, S. W. Luxford, S. E, Lancaster, E. Short, G. Wheeler, J. Jarvis, C. Pickering J. Batchelar, jnr.; .L. Abraham, E.°.D. Browne, L. F. Eanby, P. McDonald, D. Slack, E. Stevens, D. .Pringle, and A. Buchanan.

In Polled Angus Nelson Bros were practically the only, exhibitors, there being only one other entry. They secured three firsts and one second. J. N. Williams, secured -a second for the bull ; Friar, under two years, being beaten by Nelson's entry. Herefords were not numerously represented, competition being limited. Mason and Chambers secured, first and second in the class for bulls under one year, H. M. Campbell second for bull under 2 years, and second for heifer under one year, no first being awarded in the two latter classes.

In Border Leicesters the competition was divided between Nelson Bros, and the Hon. J. D. Ormond} the former being most successful with five firsts, seven seconds, and five thirds, while Ormond secured three firsts, one second and two thirds. Nelson Bros, thus win the points prize in this class with 68 points, against Ormond's 26.

In Shorthorns Archdeacon Williarhs' bull Earl Sunnerton 57th was awarded the championship. ' . ... Merinos were numerically well represented. Douglas Mac Lean was tho most successful exhibitor.. He secured the championships for both ram and ewe, besides six firsts, four seconds and two thirds. Nelson Bros, secured one first, G. .P. Donnelly one second and. one third, and W. J. Birch & Son one second and one third.

. In Shorthorns the Mount Herbert Estate's cow Duchess of Oxford Ist was awarded the championship., , The Manawatu was well represented in Alderneys and Jerseys, S. E. Lancas - ter being first for yearling bull with Peter : ll., beating-A. Buchanan's Magnetic and Gawaincj the two latter being second and third respectively.. For bull calved prior to July, 1901, S. R. Lancaster's Mayflower was Ist, W. A;, Beecroft's Eetford Lad I. being second, and Paul Hunter's Magnet Boy 136. third.

For heifer calved since July Ist, 1903, Paul Hunter's Magnet Maid and Magnet Pansy were first arid second respectively, A. Buchanan's Queen Magnet being third.

For heifer calved since July lst, 1902, S. E. Lancaster's Orange Princess and Jersey Maid 11. were "-first and second respectively;

For heifer calyed since July-lst, 1901, P. Hunter's Magnet Rose was 'first. For cow calved prior to July 1,1901, S. E. Lancaster's DarMe 12th was first, Paul Hunter's Little Rope second, and A. Buchanan's Princess XL third. Darkie 17th was also awarded the championship for Jersey cow. - .. In Border Leicesters,. Nelson Bros, secured the championship for ram and the Hon. J. D. Ormond the championship for ewes. ;

As usual the Shorthorns were a very fine lot, and competition .was keen.. In the class for bulls, calved sirice July lst, 1903, the Mount Herbert Estate's' Lord Herbert Bth was first, and Archdeacon Williams' Cardinal and Royal Duke 11th 2nd and 3rd respectively. .For bull calved since July Ist, 1902, Archdeacon Williams' Eoyal Duke Bth was first, W. Eathbone's Baron Abbotsford second, and Mr W. Taylor's Duke of Godolphin third. For bull calved since July Ist, 1901, Mt. Herbert Estate's Clifton Coronation was first and W. Eathbone's Lord Kitchener II second. For bull calved prior to July 1, 1901, Archdeacon Williams' Earl Swinnerton 57th was first and champiori, Douglas McLeari's Buscot Adonis; and. Royal Duke II second and third respec-; tively. For heifer calved 'since July Ist, 1903, Archdeacon. .Williams' secured first and Douglas'McLean secorid and third. For heifer calved since July Ist, 1902, Douglas McLean secured first arid Mt. Herbert Estate second arid; thh'd. For heifer calved since July Ist, 1901, Mt. Herbert Estate's Duchess of Oxford I. was first arid champion. Archdeacon Williairis' Royal. Duchess sth being second, and Mr G. P. Donnelly's the Rose of Ormond third; For, cows calved prior to July Ist, 1901, Archdeacon Williams' Butterayr 4th was first, Mount Herbert Estate's Bolinda£ Duchess of Derrimut 216 th second, and D.
