Kairanga County Council.

The ordinary monthly-meeting of the Kairariga* County Council was held today. Present-Crs Bryant (chairman), Nathan, Voss, "Were, Moody and Greer. An apology for absence was received from Cr Luxfbrd. . CORRESPONDENCE. From.the Treasury, requesting payment of interest due in August. From the Colonial Secretary that Order-in-Council extending time for the election of a councillorhad been gazetted. 'From the Hospital Board requesting payment of £189 Is lid, balance of levy at 5s 6d per £1000.—Passed for payment.

From the Pahiatua County Council stating it proposed, to fonvard to this Council the full amount of the loan raised in connection with Range-road work. —Clerk to arrange matter. From C. E. White, drawing attention to the bad state of the road leading to his property.—lnspector to report. From F. A. Euff asking that the roads be thrown open for grazing and also drawing attention to a hole in Railway road.—lnspector to attend to repairs necessary. From H. Fabian requesting the Council to metal the road leading to his place. —Inspector to report. - > . From C. S. Slack, forwarding cheque: for £10 ss, rent .of Awapuni reserve. From the Banger, reporting 105 head of cattle and horses had been impounded dviring the month. REPORT. The engineer reported that during the late rains the Oroua river washed away I four or five square chains of the river [ bank at Awahuri, between Nos 1 and 2 groins, but. no damage had been done j to the protective works. It would cost j about d£ls to protect the breach from further damage, and something would require to be done to prevent the river getting behind No 1 groin. He recommended that all horses and drays required for maintenance work should be purchased owing to the difficulty experienced in hiring them. Also that a gravel pit be purchased either from Messrs Pharazyn or Anderson in order to permit the upper portion of Roberts' Line and a portion of Newbury Line to be metalled. A number of slips had come down in the Fitzherbert Riding, and it would take three men a I month to clear Kahuterawa road. A culvert on No. 4 line had been blocked during.the, wet weather, and caused a wash-out^.which 'was now being repaired. The slips on Cliff road were also being cleared off. . He reeoinT mended, in connection with the Buhnythorpe railwaj' road, that the creek through Mr Scheldt's section be cleaned out and an 18-inch pipe culvert laid under the road at a cost of £20. He considered if the road was raised the water would come over lower down. DEPUTATIONS. Mr Neilson desired a culvert on Robert's Line to be mended. The Inspector reported the timber had been sent up to-day. Messrs Hobson, Mexted and other settlers waited upon the Council with, regard to the state of Robert's Line. They were informed the road machine had been sent out, but the deputation: considered the road should be metalled, and the water provided with an outlet. At present, it was stated, the road was almost impassable. The Council decided the road would be repaired as soon as the weather permitted. mSCELLANEODS« Cr Nathan's action in putting on extra men to clear Cliff-road was confirmed. It was decided to write to Messrs Pharazyn and Anderson with reference to the purchase of a gravel pit; also to see if there would be any objection to cleaning put the creek; running throughMr Scneidt's section. It was resolved to invite tenders, to be in by next meeting, for all metalling contracts.

It was decided to suspend the rangers' duties between 6 a.m. and 6 p,m. in the Bunnythorpe and Stoney Creek districts from November Ist, during the Council's pleasure. Mr J. Dalton requested the Council to form and metal the road near his property. It was decided to ask Mr J. Saunders to remove his fence, and that the inspector should report. Mr Dalton undertook to pay half cost of formation and metalling. Mr Dalton also asked for a road to his section near Mr Hayward's, Kairanga, and that the Council should take the land under the Public Works Act. The Council advised Mr Dalton to see the Hon. W. W. Johnston on the matter. The inspector was authorised to spend £15 in repairs to the Awahuri bridge. Accounts were passed for payment j and the meeting terminated.
