A. & P. Association.

After the luncheon adjournment on Saturaay the recommendations of the different Schedule Committees were read and considered by.the General Committee. A reoommendation by the Horse Schedule Committee that the wood chopping competition be cut out was negatived and the contest will be continued as a handicap event. i The_ sheep schedule was adopted in toto with the exception of the clause re.' ferring to Lincoln and Bomney unregistered Bheep, which was struck out. It was decided to oarry out the dairy farm competition next year on the lines suggested by the judges of the last competition; that the entry fee be reduced to 10s, and that prizes be on a sliding scale—according to the number of entries'made. With the completion of the schedules and details as to the appointment of judges arranged Mr Cohen moved that members' annual subscription of jgl entitles them to full privileges at the Winter Show in addition to the Spring Show.. Mr Cohen spoke at considerable length in support of his proposition. During his remarks he stated that he had taken the trouble to find out the number o£ rural transfers that had taken place during the past three years, and he had ascertained that the aggregate number was between six and eight hundred. These people were really rural settlers and if properly impressed should become members of the Association, but, it was worthy of note, that during the same period, the recruiting of the Association had b°en only to the extent of about 150 members. Mr Cohen also pointed out that it might be said that the AssociatioT had exhausted the fields and grounds from which the recruits were drawn but to show that it was not so, he said that in 1900-1, the membership list had been 967; 1901-2 915 • 1902-3,1060 ; 1903-4, 1147; out of a nominal membership list of 1300. He contended that the progress made by the Association's membership list was not in accordance with the tranfers quoted, The^ resolution was carried unanimously without further discussion. A sub-committee consisting o£ the general committee Wh.s appointed to endeavor to augment the membership list of the Association. Mr Cohen considered that the effect of the carrying of the resolut:on would be an increase of 400 members. Mr Gillies reported that the reception committee had made arrangements for boarding 25 judges at one of the local hotels. Messrs Gillies and Stevens were appointed a sub-committee to wait upon the railway authorities with a view to obtaining additional loading and unloading facilities at the station. The meeting then adjourned.
