Noxious Weeds.

Cr. Vosp, at yesterday's meeting of the Kairanga County Council, drew the Council's attention to the spread of pennyroyal in parts of the district. In some localities it. was increasing rapidly and nothing was being done to check it.

Cr. Were gave an instance o£ a friend of his who had been to the' Waikato and seen the ravages of tke plant on the. pastures there. He came home and " got the hoe to work at once," so impressed was he with what he had seen. Cr. Manson said he had been stsrtled by the growth of "the weed. It had aterrible grip of the Kairanga. The chairman's opinion was- that pennyroyal was the greatest curse we had in the district. He attributed its spread partially to the fact that the Mangaone stream had an insufficient outlet, andsoillei over in places, carrying seed with it.

Cr. Bryant also referred to the matter. The weed was useles. Stock would not eat it and it spread rapidly. On Cr Hanson's motioD, eeconded by Cr Bryant, ie was ceeidcd that the Stock Inspector's attention be specially direotsd to the rnpid growth of pennyroyal and other noxious weed 3in this district.

The Chairman : There is no doubt the Stock Inspector has got too much to do. He is working from daylight to dark, 805 days in tho year, and certainly ought to have some assiataaca. It is ono mac's work to look afser this one mat-tor of noxious weeds.
