The Maiiawatu Cadets, under Captain Jack, went into camp at the Show Ground last nighti. The Cadets mustered in strong numbers, and', headed by the Pipe Band, marched :to the camp. All arrangements made denote careful foresight on the part of the officers, and the week's annual training should be both instructive and enjoyable.. >

This morning the reveille sounded soon, after four and a parade was held, at which the hoys acquitted, themselves admirably, good discipline being maintained. Breakfast was served at the early hour of 6.30 to enable the boys to get to their work in time.i Staff Ser-geant-Major Dodd was present at the parade, and expressed his appivoval. Parents are requested to assist the officers and the corps'by insisting on the regular attendance of the boys at camp. Every care will be taken of the health of the lads, and Strict discipline will in all cases be maintained. Captain Jack is at present circulating a subscription list to enable small prizes to be given for the best kept tent, good behaviour, best drilled squad, tent pitching, etc. It is to be •hoped fkat the response will be ready and generous, as the Government treat the boys very scurvily in the matter of capitation. On Sunday next a church parade will be heM at the Congregational Church, when the local bands will be asked to attend.
