"While three ' pung men named Thomas Rowan, George Hopkins, and Thomas Carter were going out m a boat at the mouth of the Henui river near town this morning, <lie surf capsized them in about thrt-e or ff-ur feet of water.

Hopkins, who was unable to swim walked straight out; but lhe^thers, who could swim, endeavoured to save the boat.

The tide falling, carried them out,

Two men named Carlisle ar>d itobbie obsorrrd the accident, and putting out in a flat-bottnraed skiff, saved Rowan just as he was about disappearing for the last time.

Nothing more was seen of Carter, and the body was found this afternoon.

As the rescuers of. Rowan were coming in t.hpy nearly met a fuilher disaster. The skiff overlurned. and Robbie and Carlisle had a tussle to get Jiowan ashore ngainst the current
