(From Our Own .Correspondent.) ' .- After an exceptionally mild' wintor and an early spring, grass is plentiful, ' , stock is doing well, and the farmers generally are in a happy frame.of mind. Shearing is in fall pwing. The tennis and cricket clubs have opened (he season. The former clubopeued its courts on November 21sr r when some very enjoyable games were played. Afternoon tea was kindly provided by the ladies. Every credit is ' due to those who worked so assiduously in its inauguration.
A cricket match was played on Saturday, Married v Single, in which the benedicts were deteated by 29 run*. I understand b. match is fo be played, against Kimbolton at un early date. . A shooting competition is coming off on December 16lh, between teams representing the Apiti Troop of the Feilding'Mounted. Eifles and the Defence Bifle Ulub, for Messrs Stephens Bros.' silver cup. Several large and stylish residences are in course of erection.
The school children are preparing for the concert on the 23rd. The youngsters are providing:'; a;; splendid programme, and their : efforts should be patronised by a bumper:house. Our local storekeepers, Messrs Stephens Bros., have finished the additions to their store, which is noyr commodious and up-to-date. ' ; , ' }'■■ . _ The sports' committee are busy getting out their programme for NewYear's Day.
