All Saints Church.

Confirmation Service

At All Saints' Church yesterday morning Holy Communion was celebrated by Bishop Wallis. In the afternoon eighty-tw.o candidates were presented for confirmation by His Lordship. There was a very large congregation present, all' available space in the church being; fully occupied. ' Bishop Wallis preached again at the evening service.

During his sermon he referred to the future state of the soul, also, the teaching that hell consisted of lire to torture for ever those who were -cast into : it. The speaker said he for one was not prepared to say that this idea, which was the interpretation placed upo» certain words in the Bible by some people, was correct. In fact he would go further and say he personally did not believe in endless v torture. Scripture supported and qualified both views, and he believed it was never intended to tell us plainly. We could not answer these questions dogmatically. Their Heavenly Father was loving, and just, and it was provable that there was a final day of .reckoning when all men would have to account for their sins. Whatever the future punishment reserved for .those who sinned was, he hoped that all would watch and pray so that when they were called away by their Heavenly Father they would be prepared to meet Him.
