Pohangina Notes.

(From Ouiv, O. W n Correspondent.) It is with' sincere regret.'that'l have to record the death of ;Mrs Moar, which occurred;at^her;';|residences on Monday morning, after'a tang an,d ..' .painful illness.* '■■■■'' Tho; •deceased lady had been .an inmate of; the .Wellington hospital for. some' weeks, and was, also,' treated by the .leading doctors in Palmerstort North, -for an internal■'.complaint, but no relief was obtained, and for twelve . months; she bore,.her! affliction with great, fortitude. The : funeral took place' 'on Wednesday, at the Ashhurst: e'eme-i ■ tery,::' .where' .the' large assemblage of; friends bore true testimony to the respect '.of the deceased lady gained during her ten years' .residence in Pohangiha.. Very great sympathy'1; is' extended; /to Mr Moar and family -in their irreparable loss. Several beautiful wreaths were placed upon the coffin, and I notice)! close upon thirty vehicles following the hearse on the Pohangina road. . '-' :: A ;

It is pleasant to lie able to note that 'the dairying industry is advancing-. At the ' Pohangin-a creamery the supply has: considerably increased this 'season, necessitating a second : separator being' installed and a Tangye engine "being fitted to drive the' two machines. A pump has, also/taken the place, of the steam pipe for elevating- the skim milk, which will be the means of saving a lot of time., Messrs Nathan and Co. are to be congratulated on the improvements effected. Mr Goodwin is the manager, an d carries out his duties very efficiently. Our Councillors will be doing a great service to the ratepayers by putting a stop to the heavy traffic during the winter months. The experience of last winter has proved that all traffic has to suffer because the roads become nearly impassible, and seeing that the settlers have provided the whole of the cost of making the roads it certainly verges on the ridiculous that they are,debarred from using them • lhere is much adverse comment re the decision of the Council in regard to advertising.- The •Standard" has been badly treated especially as it enjoys the largest circulation. I think lam correct m saying that 90 per cent, ©f papers circulated in the Pohaagina are headed " Standard " Since Mr. W. S. Harper took his departure from our midst the township £as been without a Justice of the Peace. Our .hamlet is a very law-abiding place, but a J P is a. real necessity in the town,, as many papers require to bo signed, &c and, also, o ld residents should be honoured .. occasionally. The settlers should move in the matter '
