After the proposals had ' been ably explained by Bro. Birch, it was decided to sincerely thank the executive for their: trouble in this connection, but that the meeting could not see its way clear to adopt the scheme. The - report clearly set forth the financial position in the Wellington District; which shows that substantial progress'has been made. .1

A perusal of the balance sheet shows that the claims vp 0 n the sick and funeral fund are more than met hy the returns fr 0 m interest on invested capital, and despite the fact that the death claims have been heavy during the year this fund has * advanced by £331 lis lOd. The management fund also shows a, substantial improvement, and the total funds to tho credit of the District on tho 31st of October amounted to £11,551 2s 6d.

The membership during the year has increased by IX4, making a total of 3514.

The first business of importance [which engaged the attontion of delegates- was a letter from the Hawke's Bay District urging tho further promotion of a scheme for I the establishment of a Subsidiary High Court for New Zealand. A 'motion that in the opinion of the meeting such was not necessary met with'little favour, finding only four .supporters, an amendment being agi-eed to that the question be referred to the Courts for their decision. Alterations to rules were then I taken, when several important changes were madq. Amongst them was a provision for the payment !at the death of a member of £50. | A proposal to place honorary I members on the same footing in ' regard to medical "benefits as * for subscribing members, was rejected by. a large majority. At 9.30 last evening the meeting adjourned, and to-day proposals for the" establishment of a Death Levy Scheme and an.Old ancl -Tndingent Members' Contribution • Fund will be dealt with. To-night the visitors are to be entertained in. the Foresters' Hall' at a smoke concert.
