Kairanga County Council
Tho monthly meeting of the Xairanga County Council was held to-day. Present— Crs S. W. Luxford (chairman), Green, Were, Voss, Moody, Bryant. Manson and Nathan. CORRESPONDENCE. Prom C. J. Munro asking permission to take metal from the Council pit adjoiniHg his property. — Pei mission granted, 4d per load royalty to be charged, and the metal to lie taken under the overseer's direction. From Mrs Larseu and P Scheldt, Bunnythorpe, asking for renewals of t leases of roads hsld by them.—Granted. F. om Valuer General asking for particulars of any urgent works, roads, or bridges which it was thought should be put into the estimates for 1903-1901.— The overseer was requested to furnish particulars of work required on the Pahiatu road, for inclusion in the estimates. From G. Craw asking that the road be formed from Lin ton station to Scott's road, thiough the Swamp.—Deferred from further consideration. From T. R. Hodder, chairman of the Lougburn^School Committee, pointing out that the dram crossing opposite the | school had subsided and tho water remained there in the wet weather. —Matter'to be attended to. From A. Kennedy, Oroua Bridge, asking for a slaughtering license.—Application to be made in proper form. From Health Inspector Perry asking that particulars of infectious cases sent to the Council by medical men be forwarded him. A petition was presented by Mr R. Mathieson, on behalf of numerous settlers, requesting that tin unformed portion of Waldegrave's ro^d, near Longbum, should be formed and metalled. The petition pointed out tho road in its present state was almost impassable. The improvements were desired to facilitate the cartage of metal by the settlers from the Manawatu river. The Chairman said the work had been before the old Manawatu Road Board for years but had never been carried out. He thought the work could be carried out cheaply and when completed the cost of metal from that position of the district would be much cheaper than at present. An estimate of the cost had been prepared by Mr O'Connor when be was engineer to the Board, but as Cr Manson pointed out, the work could be done cheaper now with the help of the road machine. Cr Nathan said there were two or three bal places on ihe road and he questioned if the work could, be carried out at present. Cr Bryant said when the question was previously before the .Uoad Board the settlers had several metal pits to work only. They were now dependent on river metal only. Cr Greer said that all these new works raised the question of ways and means, but the chairman pointed out he thought the work could be carried out for about 8s per chain. The engineer was instructed to report on the question nest meeting. DEPUTATIONS. Messrs Stubbs and Hughes waited on the Council and asked that some gravelling be done on Hughes' Line to give an entrance to Mr Hughes' property. A bridge also required attention — The! Overseer was instructed to report on the matter. Mr McEwen waited on the Council and asked that some land be taken in the Ngawhakarau to give him an outlet from his property. He was willing to pay cost of same.—lt was decided to write to the ovner of the land in question as to the terms on which the land required could be purchased. Left Sitting.
