Oca uiteniicn \\us been directed to the fact that children armed with cards for collecting purposes are every now and again on the war-path in search of prey. We think that such a system of

T/ie Lo-t war to Mippn-ss procecdin;^ of this nntiirt- h for t)npublic to refuse to contribute. If the<.« colicctions ei-.nnot be nir:de by jidulN. then the .sooner tiu-y are stoj>f;ed the belter it will be for the commercial morality of the rising generation. Not c::!y nrc business people waited upon m.d })ostered i,i their bi:,!est liours, but private houses are invaded by children with cards in their hands nuking for subscriptions to this or that. How-ire people to know whether tho object for whi'-'h aid is solicited is a genuine case or ,1 fraud to{ enable the collectors or their parents to obtain sums of money easily ? Such a system of child cadging docs nof. <-:.rnmc:ul itself to u--, but we look upon the practice us a very undesirable one to encourage, and should not bo tolerated for one moment or fostered in any way. To children a lesson is taught to acquire sums of money for the mere asking, and therefore their young minds cb tot grasp the value of it or that they will hayo to earn it by honest labour and keen competition m the near future; and for this reason alone tho evil should be curtailed or piit down.
