A German Quack's frauds.

A rocerib cable- from London announced that uSbrdeakoetter, tho q^uack doctor recently arrested in London, in connection •with frauds in Berlin, had been extradited. A. chemiub named Is' ordenkoetter, who was charged in Berlin with having carried on extensive operations as a quack doctor, suddenly disappeared, early in February, and went to London, where he. was arrested some weeks ago. Nord'enkoetter had bsen attending- the proceedings since the beginning of the trial. On Febi-uary 6MI, however, he was released on bail to tho amount of 15,000 marks. His modu:« operandi was to send out immense) numbers of circulars, in which ho promised patients relief from, their sufferings, even in oases held to be incurable. The pamphlet gave statistics purporting to show tho proportion of cures effected, of which many were described a s miraculous Intending patients had first of all to forward a preliminary payment of 5?., in response to- which they"receivedl a let-tor stating that Nordenkoetter's packing department was forwarding medicine suitable to tho case, and tlir.t tlio cure would take from two to three months-. When the medicine anivod, however, tho credulous palienb found that- lie had to jv ( y O n delivery a further sum, varying ironi 4s. to 195., and on opciriiig the packet ho discovered a. detailed bill, amounting to several pounds, for medicine, consideration of tho care, chemical and microscopic in-vcst-igat-ionsi, etc.
The evidence also showed that' the deicndant's rooms were in the greatest disorder, medicines, poisons and other raw material being mixed together in uti^r confusion. While in the circular it was alleged thafe no narcotics or drastic remecik'S c-kulated to injure- the body's organism woro used, quantities of siieh drugs were found on S ro:-ficnkoc.ttcr"s premi;*?, and the President, in t3ie cpuryo "of " tli'i! proceedings, remarked that tho accused had mado up preparations containing mercury, iodine arsenic, and oilier poisons suiijcscnb to kill all tho inhabitants of iierlm. llio mKredientyi ol tlia remedies appeared to have been mixed in a most promiscuous manner, som-a in a, bst-h and otliers in saiicepans and tho like ki'tcl'-cn utensils.
