Auckland, .Thursday. At the Supreme Court Timothy P.iard Chrisfciiin, found guilty of shocking outrage ou a seven-year-old child, was sentenced to ton years' imprisonment, and was ordered to receive two floggings of 25 strokes each.

At a meeting of the Trades and Labor Council it was resolved, That in the opinion o£ this Council the action of the Victorian Government in their attempt to deprive the Victorian railway servants of their civil liberty is unwarranted and reprehensible, and against the teachings and exiim:?nce of >m educated democracy ; and this Council urges the railway servants to resist such steps to the -utmost in the interests of liberty and true citizenship.
