(Per Press Association) Invekcahgilx, Weduesday. Tho fire brigade station to replace that destroyed by fire three years ago, was put into use with some ceremony this afternoon. Mayor Longuet. Mayor-iilcct-Froggatt and Sir Joseph Ward made speeches. The Mayor was uvesented by the Councillors with a silver key, as a memento of the building which is two-storied, built of brick, and with bell-tower 60ft higu. It is situated in Esk-street. New Plymouth. Last Night. A fatal accident occurred at Sentry Hill to-night. A man named Wood, employed with a threshing machine which was being shifted by moonlight between 8 and 9, got caught between the engine and the combine, and was crushed in the chest. He lingered a short while and expired before the doctor arrived. Deceased was the man who was in company with P. George, who, a lew days back, was throw n from his bicycle and killed while on the road to Sentry Hiil. Though hundreds of inquiries were made only ten applicaiions were received and granted. Mastertox, Last Night. The final meeting of the Band Contest Committee was held to-day. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £42. It was decided to hand over this amount to the uniform fund of the Mastertou Brass Band. The chairman stated that the gross receipts in connection with the contest amounted to £1,032. As a result of the Trust Lands Trustees' refusal to comply with the instructions of the Health Department to demolish certain of their buildings, Dr Prengley, who is acting for Dr. Valentine, made a round of some premises to-day and decided to insist upou certain alterations, and to refer the remainder again to Dr Valentine, who will communicate his filial decision to the Council later. While acting as health officer Dr Frengley made a 'tour of inspection of Masterton to-day, and discovered a painful case of overcrowd'iug in a one-roomed building. Five child" yen, whose ages ranged from about four to fourteen, were "bunked together." CiiEiSTCiruucH, Wednesday. It is reported that a garrotting case occurred in a right-of-way near Jbichfield Street at about 4.30 p.m. today. Two men were arrested to-night on a charge of assault with intent to rob an auctioneer.

At an inquest on Lucy Morris Shannon Dr Syme, who made ihs> post-mortem examination, attributed death to bloodpoisoning, caused by imperfect action of the kidneys ; there wns no (race of any poison. Dr Morton Anderson supported this statement. Professor Bickerton— who analysed the vomit, stomach and liver—found no trace of arsenic or other poison. The jury returned a verdict in accordance with Dr Synies' evidence.
