Flood Relief.
A representative meeting: of tho settlors of Rongotea was held last night to consider the question oC relieving the lands affected by the flooding of the Manawatu and Oroua rivers. Mr Whitaker occupied the chair.
Mr O. Gardner, chairman of the provisional committee, addressed the meeting ex-plaining tho object and proposals of the promoters. He moved that the meeting support the formation of a river board.
The motion was seconded by lie Seifert.
Mr Ransome moved, an amendment that the meeting take no action in the matter, on tho ground that the proposals would' not necessarily benefit those present. This amendment was seconded by. Jfi- Anderson, and, on a division^ was carried.
It should, of course, be pointed out that Rongotea is on the outskirts of tho district which would be affected by the scheme, and this is probably the reason for the adverse vote.
A public meeting in connection with the matter is to be held at jLinton to-night.
