Priedrich Arndt. a bookkeeper of M.ajrdobu !•?■;, had appropriated £1000 belonging" to his employers. Most of the money ho spent in handsome presents for his pretty sweetheart Elsie .Senders. When his funds began to dwindle he persuaded Elsie to accompany him to Berlin, where, under ah assumed ; name tjhey would begin a new life. They took a room at a well-k?iown hotel in the centre of Berlin, and registered as " Herr Schneider and frau." Unfortunately Frau Schneider could not deny herself the pleasure of writing a picture ?)ostcard to friends in Madgeburg. This put the police on the track of the couple, and one morning recently Arndt, or Schneider, noticed that the police were in the hotel. When the guardians of the law approached his door he put a revolver to the temple of poor, misguided Klsie and shot her. He then killed himself. Elsie ' was just able to tell the story of the tragedy and then died.
