R. BENTLEY YOUNG, Representative. MAYORAL ELECTION. TO THE ELECTORS OP PALMERSTON NORTH. Ladies a>-d Genieeiten— In response to a very numerously signed requisition by all classes of electors I hav6 consented to contest the coming election for the Mayoralty. Pending my public' addresses I wish to state that the principal matters which I strongly fayor are comprised m the following :— To put in hand at once and carry through to c, satisfactory termination all necessary public works at present in contemplation by the Council, such as the increase and extension of the water-supply and sewerage, the erection of abattoirs, town hall, and opera house, and telephone office for licensed vehicles, the inauguration of a better system of road and footpath maintenance and supervision of the same. To initiate a system by which the plantations in the four portions of the Square shall be improved and brought in line with similar plantations in other towns of the colony, and the general simplification and bringing up to date of all matters of importance to the residents, and to carefully watch all events taking place in the immediate neighbourhood likely to influence, for good or ill, the interests of the ratepayers. Further, I would endeavour to guide the decisions of the Council in such a way that the general management of the Borough will be an example to all similar bodies, and to strongly advocate anything which may tend to the advancement of Palmerston North, and in so doing place this borough in its destined position of being the principal inland town of the colony. j c. dune:.
