One remarkable feature in the local option poll is that there has been a slight increase in the vote for continuance and not a falling off, as has been generally understood. But the increase has not kept pace with that cast for prohibition, and the deduction can fairly be made that as the younger portion of the population gets old enough to vote they cast in their lot with the prohibition party. The actual figures show that the continuance vote has increased in six years by 5,569, while the no-license vote has increased by 59,975, the increase during the last three years being, roughly speaking, about half those figures. This steady progress in the no-license vote is a -remarkable testimony to the prevalence of the prohibition principle throughout tlie colony, and there can be no question but that a colonial poll would prove thai; $hp majority of the adults of the colony are prepared to make a change, trusting to "the experience of timt to prove whether it 'is in the best interests of the colony.
