MANAWATU EVENING STANDARD AND POHANGINA GAZETTE. Circulation, 2,800 Copies Daily TUESDAY, SEPT. 30, 1902. THE END OF THE SESSION.
Ok Wednesday or Thursday next the last session of the present Parliament will be brought to a conclusion, and it is fitting that it should have been one of the most model sessions held in the colony for many a year past. Model in many senses. The hours of sitting have not been protracted, there has been an entire absence of anything like tho " seenus " which have been prevalent for the last ten years, a considerable amount ot good work has been doDo, almost every piece of information^ asked for has been furnished, and the Acting-Premier has been the pink of courtesy. Under those circumstances. it is no wonder that members on both sides of the House are viewing with a recrudescence of tho old order of things after the return of tho Premier—a. reign of bounce and bluster, of unfaithfulness and vindictiveness, of weary sittings and legislation b/ chieanry, a record of political jobs worked and of good legislation baulked —infaota period embracing the worst points in political life. It is probably no reason for regret that this position of affairs should have been so accentuated by the absence.of the Premier during the whole of a session of Parliament for the peoi-le of tho colony, were being educated to believe that the Seddonian methods of legislation were the only ones likely to produce successful results, -and that political tergiversation was , excusable under the circumstan,ee£. For the fact cannot be hidden j that the most successful session of Par-1 liament jield jn the polony for, many years has been marked by urbanity and courtesy, by efficient.work and necessary legislation, by fairly easy hours | and absence of heavy strain, and by the conclusion of the session in the shortest period for a very long time.
