On Wednesday "ig'it Mr Robertson, Government vet., gave an address in the Public It ill on the diseiso* of cattle, more CMpoci.illy relating to dairy cows aud calve*. There w:u a fair attendanoo, considering; that no notice of the meeting was posted until a few hours previous to the tim« of commencement. Mr W. S. Hwper presided and introduced Mr Robertson, who gave a very utructructive lecturu, which was atten-ui-ely listened to. Several questions were asked and satisfactorily answered, and a hearty vote of thanks wao «e----cord-d Mr W. Robertson, and a similar compliment to the chammn at the close been execrable, snow, hail,. wind and ram in abundance. The grass is very Kcaroe, stock in consequence doing badly,, especially dairy cows, the returns from which are one-third Uu thin should bj at this season. . A petition to thj Poitra w.ter-GaneMl is being numerously signed in this district asking for a chnn^ in the post'ii time table,'so as to allow of the run loflvmjj one town at 8 a.m. and received at 7 p m.. which would allow a reply to correspondence with Palmer^ton and di3trict in twelve hour*, anl ateo improve the coach service. The coming County Coun.-il elections which iiro soon to take pho are already causing some interest in some of the ridings, where local interests are at a stike. Tlie site for ths Pohanginn, bridge having boon now seftlod by the Government, I v iderstand that there is to be opposition to th-3 chairman this year in the person of Mr Vrhuckle. It is to be regreltr J that- only one candidate can be returned. I very mueu regret to notice that Councillor Corntoot lias d.-eidod not t > seek re election for the Poliingina riding, as during the six ye-irs he his rep-e----sontod the ratepayers he has given entire satisfaction to all, and he was looked. upon as a very worthy member of the Council, and i* deserving of the best tlimiks of the ratepayers for his services Mr A. A. Wag<tuff has been appointed > Sub-Kmimerator for the collecting of the i Agricultural Statistics in thcl'ohungtua, ' Mangaone, Awahou andXamuki ridings of the Pohangina county, the return will L bo taken on and after the 11th o£ L October.
