Rongotea.

j (Our Own Ourrwpondenl). ' A public meeting of those interested in Bible reading and instruction in State schools, was held in the Kongotca Mall on Monday evening. Mr V. C. Ransom, was voted to the chair. The Rev. Mr Wilson, addressed (lie meeting in favour of the subject, having previously proposed the folI lowing resolution : " That it is desirable that lessons from the, Bible should be read in our schools, in order that thereby the children may learn something of the elements of the Christian religion, and of the principle of true morality." Messrs Glover, Jones, and Darragh, spoke strongly in favour of the resolution, and after free discussion, it was carried unanimously. The following resolution was also carried : " That this meeting accept the objects of the Society for the promotion of Bible reading in Stale schools as set forth in the circular of the Wellington City Branch, and that a branch of the Society be set up for this locality. A branch .was then formed of which Mr Hansom was elected President, and Mr Penny secretary and treasurer. The following was elected a committee :— Messrs Jones, Glover, Dcrham, Darragh, Butcher, Hunt, N. (iifford, and the Revs. Robinson, Vcalie, and Wilson. The subscription for membership was fixed at Is. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair. The Fielding Brass Band visited Rongotea on Sunday afternoon and gave" sacred selections. A collection was taken up by one of the local residents and £3 was collected.
