They were a very youthful couple, and the expressions o{ condolence and sympathy from some of the female passengers in the train only increased their embarrassment over the loud crying of their baby. At the next station a stern-visaged matron got in and took a vacant seat adjoining that occupied by the distressed mother.
" Madam, allow me to hold your baby a moment," she said, after listening half a minute to the wailing of the infant ; and without waiting for consent to be given placed the little one on her lap. She fumbled in its for a few seconds, and the crying stopped. " It's my opinion," she said, as she returned the now smiling baby to its mother, " that women who don't know how to use safety pins properly have no right to get married."
The tittering had not ceased when the husband remarked to his wife • " This is where we get out."
