The Stud.
By an announcement in another column it will b, setn that Mr E. B. Vine his decided to place his thoroughbred sire Enchanter at the service oi breeders in this district during the coming season.
Enchanter is a beautiful d«rk bay. standing 16.3 hands. Uo is a rcmiirk•ibly gocd tempered ho: so audit would bn difficult to find a better tire in tho coijny. His stock have ali turned out well, and at a rtceni Mat aura show three of his progeny recc-ivod the special priz;j for being tho threo best all-round horses by the same stallion in the show. For the breading of remoun-s, Enchanter is particularly well suited, many of his a*oek having brought big prices L,t this purpose. Enchanter's breeding is undeniable, and holh sides of ids pedigree are stuidod with the brightest gems of the stud book and turf regi3er. He is full brother tn that well known performer Crown Jewel, she winner amongst other races of tbe Wanganui Cup and Hawke's Bay Cup; also to Enchantress, winner of tne Canterbury OAks ; and he is closely related to many other woll-krwwn winners on tho New Zealand turf. He is tho tiro of the Gue33;r, whoso nams is ftmiliar to all local sportsmen.

Vv'lii-ker was inviocibie on ths ttnf in the early days in Now South Wales. Miranda's dam, Belle of the Islo besides being a racehorse and a winner of tho Canterbury Cup, produced amoag-t others that wonderful horse Templelon, whose deeds on tho turf in this colony wjll never be forgotten, and who won amongst other events the Canterbury Cup, Great Autumn Handicap, Auckland Cup, DJ.C. Handicap, Dunedin Cup (twice), Forbury Handicap. Spray, Belle of the Isles' dam, left many winners, including Wetsail, winner o f the Canterbury Cup two years in succession, and other events; Scud Spritsail, Stormbird, Southern Chief and others. Spritsail was the dam of British Lion (winner of tho New Zealand Cup), Masthesd, and several others. Enchanter's high lineage could be traced out still further, but enough has boen said to show that his breeding is of tho stoutest! He is a sure foal-getter, and settlers wishing to breed usefui horses could not do better than patronise him.
In the show ring Enchanter has beaten such horses as Sylvia Park, Daystar, Armourer, Gipsy Kin_, Haere, Fraternite, Recluse, St. Conan, Son-of-a-Gun, Handsome Jack, Saracen, Kuatangata' and Allan-a-dale. Ho took first and champion prizes at Egmont in 1896-98, and at Taranaki in 1897-98-99. During the past six years Enchanter has travelled in tho district between Hawera and Okaio.and has had most successful seasons, all his stock fetching high prices'. - • '
